When I got here this time, Clancy and I were talking and I told him that I was surprised that I had never seen an accident or the results of an accident in any of the times that I had been here. On the way to the falls on Saturday, we saw the results of two accidents on the road.
Today on the way back from class, Janet was driving. We were at one of the busiest places on the road called Kilometre Douze (Kilometer 12) which is a larger market area that is always bustling with people. We were in a large Toyota 4X4 and Janet had someone step out in front of her and she clipped him with the front bumper. He was fine but as Janet talked to him through the window he decided he would like to go to the hospital so he jumped in the car and road to the hospital.
Janet walked him in and called Abel, the office worker that the mission employs to come to the hospital and sit with him and make sure that what he was saying was true and that they weren't treating him for things that he didn't have. Janet knew it would cost them about $40,000-60,000 cfa to have all the x-rays and things that he would want done.
Abel was back in less than an hour so we knew that was good news. Praise God it wasn't worse.
While we were sitting in the hospital parking lot we witnessed one of the 125cc motorbikes hit someone. A crowd of people immediately gathered around the girl that was hit and carry her across the street to the hospital. She was ok as far as anything life threatening.
One of the unique things about Africa.
