After Church Lunch

After church, I was invited to one of the deacon's homes for lunch and boy did they put out a spread for us.  The house was very nice and one of the nicest homes that I have been in.  I ate with 2 of the deacons and one lady who joined us.  I'm honestly not sure who she was, although I know that she was not the wife of either man there.  My guess is that she was the head of the women's ministry of some kind.  My translator also joined us for lunch.

We sat in the living room to eat using the coffee table and our laps as props.  First they brought out a huge salad of green beans, corn, cucumbers, carrots, pineapple and lettuce.  We can't eat the lettuce because they can't get it clean enough for our sensitive American stomachs and the people here are aware of that.  I had a good portion of salad that was served to me.

THEN, they brought out a large platter of rice and a stew pot with some kind of mystery meat in it.  (I did ask later what it was and it was goat.  I like goat - although this was a little tough.)  Just as I was finishing what I thought was all of my lunch they brought out 3 more platters; 1 platter of shish kabob beef with onions and tomatoes and peppers which was very good, a whole roasted fish that was cut up into pieces with the head and the tail and all the bones attached.  I love the fish here, but I was so full I couldn't eat anything.  Oh yeah, they also had a good sized platter of fried/roasted plantains which are similar to bananas and french bread.
