This afternoon in class as we were talking through chapter 17-18 in Revelation, I was speaking of the one world religion that seems to be in place after the Rapture and before Antichrist really rises to power at the midway point of the Tribulation.
Some commentators believe that this one world religion will be Islam simply because it is the religious system that is the most aggressive and growing in our world today. If Jesus waits to return for 100-150 years it may be something different.
In all of my examples today though I used Islam as the possibility of the one world religion because it is a very real threat here to the people and the Church here in the CAR. As I was teaching I told the students that God would use Antichrist to put an end to that one world religion in order for Antichrist to be the only person worshiped in the world for the last 3.5 years of the Tribulation.
Two aspects of that were startling to my students. First, they never considered that God would use someone as evil as Antichrist will be to accomplish his purpose, although they did know and understand that God has used evil people in the Bible to accomplish his purposes. They had never put 2 and 2 together with Antichrist though.
Secondly, the students became very emotional when the realized that Islam (if that is the one religion) will be done away with according to the plan of God. God will then judge Antichrist and his Kingdom for his disobedience as well. But when the students connected so closely to the threat of Islam and mosques coming into their country and realized that God is in control of that, it was as if a light bulb came on in their head as they realized that God really is sovereign in all things.
