Monday December 5

Today was a huge day.  We spent about 7 hours out at the center taking pictures, delivering mail, and working on the packages.  We have packed more than 1000 packages and taken about 800 pictures.
The highlight of my day was meeting our orphan, Aladoun.  He was so sweet.  We were only able to speak with a translator for a short time but when I put my arm around him to take a picture, he put his arm around me too.  Then when we were leaving for lunch, we passed him on the road and he ran to the truck and held on to my hand while we were passing by.  I hope to be able to spend some more time with him tomorrow.
After supper we started working on renaming the picture files on the computer.  We still aren't completely finished, but I am going to bed.

It is midnight here - way past my bedtime.  We will have another big day tomorrow finishing the rest of the classes and finding those who were absent.  Wednesday we will go back to Bercai, the little center on the other side of town to take pictures of those who we missed.  We also hope to go to the High School to deliver packages and visit the Seminary to deliver some pictures that Jason took.

The low part of the day was finding out that an high school orphan, Chamberlin, who helped us pack the gifts on Friday, has appendicitis.

He is in the hospital in a lot of pain.  Please pray for him as he is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow.  Also pray that it does not burst tonight.  As you can imagine, it is not the ideal place to have surgery.  His brother died a few months ago, so the family is taking this especially hard.  He is a great kid and it is heavy on all of our hearts that he is in so much pain tonight.

FYI - it costs about $200 American dollars to have your appendix removed here.

Physically I am feeling "normal" - whatever that feels like :)  No headaches yesterday or today.  Thanks for praying.

You can also pray that we can get the final supplies we need to pack the last of the gifts.  When we originally ordered the food here for the gifts, we ordered 1200 - but since then, they added about 200 new orphans to the program, so we are scrambling a little bit to find more items for them.  Hopefully we will be able to get more sugar and sardines tomorrow morning so we can finish the gifts.
