Today has been filled with great highs and great lows.
The best accomplishment of the day was finishing packing all the bags for the orphans. YEAH! We have packed about 1350 bags total. I am so excited to have that accomplished.
The sobering part of the day was when we learned at breakfast that a church planter for the pygmy people was killed yesterday in a hunting accident. He was in Barb's first Bible classes in the late 1980's and was one of three pigmy men who traveled to the States with her several years ago. The whole mission community here is devastated by the loss. The funeral "sit in" is taking place and we may be traveling there tomorrow to pay our respects. The plans for tomorrow are still up in the air, so who knows.
We were also burdened for Chamberlin, the high school boy who is in the hospital with appendicitis. He did not have surgery yesterday as we hoped, but had to wait until today for them to get the money. We haven't heard how he is doing, but to be honest, his odds aren't really good for survival. We have prayed for God to heal him, but we also know that God doesn't always answer our prayers like we want him to. My friends, the Barlows, have also been on my mind today as they are facing a family loss.
Overall, especially in these surroundings, I have been really aware of how short life is. We are not promised tomorrow - we don't know the plans that God has for our lives. At the end of the day, I hope that I can say that I lived every moment for the glory of God. Today has been a fresh reminder to live for Him.
